Within the framework of the Community Health and Safety Program, specialized training in counseling on Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) was developed in cooperation between the Paraguayan Red Cross, PRONASIDA, the First Health Region of Concepción and Paracel.

The initiative aimed to train volunteers from the Paraguayan Red Cross Concepción Branch and members of the Family Health Units (USF), in order to strengthen prevention, awareness and testing actions in the districts of Paso Barreto, Sergeant José Félix López and Paso Horqueta, in the department of Concepción.

The trainings were provided by representatives of PRONASIDA and included theoretical and practical content. The participants received training in the application of rapid tests for HIV and syphilis, as well as guidelines for counseling and mental health support for people with a positive diagnosis, ensuring empathetic, confidential and timely care.

The training process was developed in three stages:

August 04 and 05: initial sessions in the Departmental Government Hall of Concepción.

August 20: closing theoretical-practical day.

August 21 and 22: community approach with field testing days.

The participants were committed to replicating the knowledge acquired in their communities, promoting awareness-raising spaces and actively accompanying testing campaigns in the three prioritized districts.

These actions will last until December 2025, with the purpose of strengthening the community response to HIV and other STIs, promoting access to information, prevention and timely diagnosis throughout the department of Concepción.

Paracel reaffirms its commitment to the promotion of family health, sexual and reproductive health services, as well as to the continuous training of its stakeholders, through strategic alliances with expert and highly trained organizations in these areas.
