The Paracel Monitoring Commission hosted a discussion on natural risks and community prevention in the Concepción department
The Paracel Monitoring Commission, in partnership with the ARAPY Climate Science Hub, hosted an Open Forum on Natural Hazards, a public event that brought together national experts, students, institutional and organizational representatives, and community members to learn about and reflect on the challenges associated with climate phenomena and their impact on the region.
During the session, experts in climate science, risk management, public health, forest fires, and water resources shared updated information, experiences, and perspectives on the impacts of ENSO (El Niño and La Niña) phenomena, highlighting the importance of promoting prevention, adaptation, and response actions to extreme weather events.
The event was organized by the Paracel Monitoring Commission in partnership with the ARAPY Climate Science Hub, an association of researchers and academics dedicated to research, development, and innovation to understand and address climate challenges.
The forum featured five specialists from ARAPY: Antonieta Rojas de Arias, president of the ARAPY Climate Science Hub and specialist in public health and climate change; Max Pasten, specialist in atmospheric sciences and climate variability; María del Carmen Álvarez Enciso, specialist in hydrology and water resources; Rossana Scribano, specialist in climate change adaptation and risk management; and Larissa Rejalaga, specialist in integrated fire management and forest fires.
Key topics addressed included risk management, the El Niño phenomenon in Paraguay, the economic impacts and losses associated with climate change, the relationship between climate change and health, and the effects of the ENSO phenomenon on the Paraguay River.
The initiative helped bring scientific and technical information to the public, fostering a better understanding of the risks associated with climate phenomena and the importance of incorporating preventive measures across all sectors of society.
